Protruding sternum after weight loss
It is indeed the same sort of pain I felt during the first year of my bypass. Hi, I have the same thing, feels like an inch long and it hurts when you press on it. I finally put the nausea together with touching the protruding piece of bone as a verified four hour delayed event. Better to be proactive and find it is nothing. My doctor simply mentions the possibility of costochondritis exacerbated by the surgery, or a sternum that has not properly healed. My doctor did the same and took X-Rays and nothing showed up. It still hurts a bit if I lean against it. I finally went to the doctor, and he examined the lump, declared it to be the xiphoid process, but ordered a CTscan because of the esophagal discomfort. I would love to find a doctor who is sympathetic to this issue and who could offer some solutions or suggestions. I got an appointment with the surgeon who did the CABG to complain about the problem. I told him it was not soft like a hernia and I was sure it was bone. I recently had a stress test with all the scans so it cannot be my heart. Mine sits on the right side only and seems to be getting bigger. That by itself was really painful but about 4 hours later I experienced the nausea again for the first time in weeks. Ive also just had x-rays done on my chest and ekg also for heart examinations which all came back normal, this was about 2months ago, so im thinking if there was something there it wouldve shown up on there, wouldnt it have. They left it sticking outward like a finger pushing out against the skin. A bottle held only two doses:-( Then one day I hit it against the bottom of steering wheel while sitting in the car waiting for my wife. I politely declined his offer and his diagnosis. I am looking to find a doctor who is willing to do more than just tell me what it might be.

Im just wondering if I should go see a doctor, ive read of the xiphoid process and im not sure if thats what it is. I may insist on x-rays but he assured me that it wqas nothing to worry about. I am going for a CT Scan on Tuesday, although it may be nothing I would rather spend the money to find out it is nothing rather than to ignore it and it actually be something serious. I even have at least three lymph nodes swollen--one at the back of my ear and one on each where the sideburns are. It really doesnt bother me but lately ive been noticing it more and more. Whenever the pain becomes more acute, I do have some gastric symptoms and often times missed heartbeats, along with chest wall sensitivity when the area is touched. I had x-rays and they all came back normal (about 4 weeks ago). I guess most of us have our own individual problems caused by cracking the chest. They did the kind that involves somesort of dye. So I recommend you go ahead and get it checked. It grows longer as you age and can be popped in and out by tightening your stomach muscles. Feels like this thing is digging into my insides. The symptoms seem to get worse whenever I have any sort of viral infection, or during the winter months. It was P-A-I-N-F-U-L for the first few years and I still cannot sleep on my belly or my back due to the skin pulling down against it when I lie on my back. When it would get like that, swallowing something really chunky would ease the discomfort. I dunno if its all in my head just because i found it. I recently felt what feels like a lump under my sternum, it feels like its connected to my sternum and only way i even relized he was there was because i was feeling around my stomach area one day. Perhaps, they can get a good look inside without reverting to surgery. I also was noticing that there seemed to be a blockage in my esophagus about the same place to the point where it was difficult to swallow something wellchewed, or small, or even drinking water. I had a bypass in 1996 and they screwed up the little tailbone that sticks down from the middle of the sternum.
